Hello, from Michigan!

My name is Kristine, and I am a high school math teacher and mom of 2. I've been sewing since I was 12. I took a vacation from it during college and early motherhood, and am back with a vengeance! My blog is "Just Keep Sewing" (like Dory sings from "Finding Nemo", but sewing instead of swimming).
A few years ago (before I started blogging and sewing profusely), I couldn't tell you what a Chanel jacket looked like. I watched Lindsay T make a few this year, and now, here I am, ready to try my hand at it! I'm so excited to be participating in this sew along for a few reasons...

1. It will keep me motivated and on-task!
2. It will guide me in the correct construction techniques.
3. It will be so much fun to see what all of you create!

I bought this fabric a year (or more) ago from Gorgeous Fabrics, with the intention of using it with Vogue 7975. I must've been psychic, since here I am now, finally feeling ready enough to put this together properly, and this is the perfect pattern! I don't have a lining fabric yet, but I'm thinking of using a solid since the fabric is already so colorful.
I really like the open view, with 3/4 sleeves (top right), but am wondering if this boucle is all wrong for a "Chanel Jacket" of this style. Thoughts? I am going to New York in 3 weeks for a sewing class, and could always wait to start, and take advantage of those fabulous fabric stores...

Anyhow, I'm glad to be here, and look forward to learning a lot from all of you!

  1. I actually think this fabric would be perfect for the style.
Since you are going to NY and if you do find something else...there is no crime in two jackets!

  2. I'm of the mindset that I want wear and love the Chanel-style jacket I will put so much time and effort into, so if you will wear a jacket made from the boucle you have, I say use it! And as Cindy says, if you see fabric in NY that you also love, get it and make two! ;)

  3. Chanel jackets are made of anything and everything, so this wool is fine. But there are loads and loads of beautiful bouclés in NYC, so you may want to wait before you cut. And you can also get your trim in NYC too.

  4. I love the fabric! It gives you a lot of possibility with the trim, too. Color me jealous that you get to go fabric shopping in NYC, though!!

  5. I think I have that same fabric in a purple/plum/black combo.
