Hello From Michelle

Hello Everyone! Greetings from St. Louis!

I am so glad to be able to be included in this sew-along! I have been hiding a piece of black and pink boucle from myself that I think will be perfect for a Chanel-style jacket. I have enough that I would ultimately also be able to make a skirt to go with it, but I think the fabric would be pretty paired with either a black or grey as well.

I wasn't sure what pattern that I was going to use, but I swung by Hancock's today and picked up Vogue 7975:

Fortunately, the Vogues were on sale for $3.99.

I like the shorter version, but am not fond of the patch pockets. The pattern indicates that View C and D have mock welt pockets, but it should be a simple enough thing to change those to actual welt pockets. I also don't know if I will use the front that buttons up, or the one that doesn't. But, since I'll be making a muslin, then I can decide based on that.

I have no idea what to do for buttons or trim, I'm enjoying seeing everyone else's choices, and I am sure you all will inspire me.

I did notice while I was digging the boucle out of the "stash boxes," that I already have a charmeuse with the same colors. I'm not sure if it is "too much" for the lining, but then again...who sees that except for me? Here are the two fabrics together:

I am so excited to get started on this project. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!

  1. Adore the lining. Great combination.

  2. Michelle:

I really like the combination. The lining is such fun. I haven't selected fabrics yet, but seeing your combination I'm thinking now that I need to get something exciting for the lining.

  3. I love that lining with the black and pink boucle! It was meant to be!

  4. I love the lining! I have a picture of a chanel with a fun lining. I will add it to the comments here when I find it!

  5. I love the lining too. I think it will make the fashion fabric POP. Great choice. I know I have to line my jacket, but hadn't thought about using a print.

  6. I think the lining looks great with the fabric!!! Go for it!

  7. Ooh, definitely not 'too much' with the lining fabric, it will look great :-)

  8. My personal doctrine is that "too much is never enough." And I think modern-day Chanel agrees. In other words, your fabric combo is perfect!
