Here is a quick post in regards to Linton Tweeds Direct in England. The website has the full history, and they are one supplier to Chanel. I contacted via email requesting samples of their wool boucles. I wasn't sure the prices and requested samples under $50, or maybe it was $45, a metre. I wish that I didn't specify because it would have been interesting to compare the quality with the higher priced boucles. Margaret Duffy is the manageress who was so sweet and helpful. I requested the samples on the 27th and they arrived in Chicago from England on the 30th! Now that is great customer service! There are 5 price categories and I would have loved to see the $55./metre , and higher, category because I believe that is what I needed for the jacket. The wools and silks that I received in my price range were not all intended for jackets. They would make beautiful skirts and dresses though.
Here are two fabrics that I like for a jacket perhaps in the future. Presently I am trying to find a solid, texture boucle . One with more of a sweater quality--right, JoanneM? The vivid pink is a very bright silk/wool blend. It would look handsome with velvet trim and a bit of fringe.
And this blue and white check is a thicker wool and would make a lovely coat. I believe, this particular fabric was $40/metre.

LOVE the blue. It is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOooh... I never even thought of hunting down the real deal. I wish you could share texture via the web!
ReplyDeleteI've gotten samples from them a couple of times and most of them would work well with the quilting process. It doesn't have to be sweatery. You live in Chicago, so I'd take a look at one of the big stores that sells Chanel, or perhaps there's a Chanel boutique and go look at the jackets and see the fabrics used. You probably won't see the quilting in rtw.
ReplyDeleteJust a note for any Australian Chanel'ers - I am pretty sure that Linton Tweed suppliers will be listed in the next Australian Stitches.
ReplyDeleteOh, fancy.... I'd have loved to see (and feel) those $55/ meter fabric swatches, too.
ReplyDeletewow - Cindy - you go girl! Looks you are going to make a jacket worthy of Chanel.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this info, Cindy! I'm going to request some swatches from them too.
ReplyDeleteWow, those are seriously beautiful fabrics! Thanks for the link!
