Remember the Chanel?

It is a new year's resolution to complete my unfinished projects and, from then on out, only have one project in cue. My UFO's include my in-progress winter coat, faux fur stole/cape, and, of course, my Chanel. Now I don't want to make excuses about my year long love/hate with my Chanel, but I am convinced that you can't make Chanel, with Chanel techniques, without a dressform. As soon as I got my Ivy for Christmas, the Chanel has been coming along..I love it. I have my jacket on the dressform while I handsew. I have so much control which I didn't have before. Presently I have all the fell stitches of my vertical seams and shoulders completed and I have catchstitched the hem and around the neck and opening of the boucle. Next up, hand stitch the lining to the hem and neckline. I really need to be working on the sleeves...can you tell that I am avoiding them?

I have been playing around with trims too-

  1. Go Cindy, you'll love wearing this jacket once it is finished, the cardigan style with quilted lining is soooooo comfortable. I think I used my dress form a lot too, now that you mention it.

  2. THis looks lovely. Only the other day I was staring at my unfinished jacket, too. Perhaps this will give me the impetus to finish

  3. I'm another one with an unfinished jacket! I hope to get back to it soon so it is ready to wear in autumn, it is too hot to even think about it right now.
    Your fabric is lovely!

I must confess that I did avoid the sleeves as much as could too.

  6. Bless you for posting. I´ve been keeping a keen eye on this blog and have been conserned to see how the last post was left on August, no sooner.
Chanel jacket is such a classic. Chanel- styled jackets are such a marvellous recognition to Chanel´s life work and passion, that it is a pleasure to see others continuing what she started.

  10. This is so funny, I first read your comment on Gail Doanes page about traditional smocking etc. and as I make traditional things ( I am lucky enough to have been published in the last 4 issues of AS&E) I thought that I would check out your blog. Then I find your Chanel Jacket Blog.......I am starting my Chanel jacket in my sewing class on tuesday!!!! I have made my toile, and as I do not have a dress form, I am taking it to my class to be fitted!!!! We are kindred spirits!!!!
